Through extensive international research conducted with Talky, all the requirements for the video conferencing project have been met.

Video conferencing serves as a crucial support tool, and despite the availability of numerous commercial solutions, many institutions and organizations choose to develop their own systems due to concerns regarding ease of use, cost, reliability, and security issues. Research indicates that many leading video conferencing platforms have been found to compromise privacy and security. Furthermore, such applications have been banned by opposing nations due to security concerns, as revealed by various studies.

Upon examining the overall needs, it is evident that there is a demand for an alternative video conferencing solution that does not require proprietary software, is accessible to everyone, is cost-effective, and is transparent.

The primary objective of Talky is to provide an easy-to-use, secure, and affordable video conferencing platform for research, education, art, and communication communities, serving as an alternative to commercial solutions.

Talky simplifies real-time communication and offers a personal conferencing tool via the browser without the need for additional clients or plugins. To start using Talky, all one needs is a web browser, microphone, and a basic webcam. Talky supports and operates on any computer and mobile device with a web browser that supports WebRTC.

To achieve optimal performance, the communication and API structure within the application are built upon signaling, with standard HTTP operations avoided entirely. Additionally, aside from SSL/TLS, signal communication is encrypted with AES 512 by salting each client individually.

PRIVATE CRYPTOGRAPHY

The project includes SSL encryption at the API level. The application service re-encrypts all SSL content with TLS separately. Signaling services and all signaling over these services are specially encrypted with 512 AES.

SECURITY IS OUR FOCUS

Unauthorized guests are among the most common problems in meetings. We have made available all kinds of capabilities to prevent these situations, which occur consciously or accidentally. There are two types of participation in Talky live rooms.

In the connection with participation option, the admission of each participant to the room is subject to moderator or administrator permission. Participants are kept in the lobby, their information is checked, and they are allowed to enter the room and given a secure connection. In the invitation with participation type, a specially encrypted secure connection is sent to each participant. Depending on the administrator’s preference, they can enter the room directly or be kept in the lobby. Each secure connection is valid for one IP address. Thus, the connection becomes unusable by other users. The administrator can adjust the validity of the secure connection at any time.

ARCHIVABLE LIVE ROOMS

Talky aims to be an agenda for all your communications and interactions. Meetings, seminars, and trainings you have done or will do are kept in a diary. Thus, all information about a live room, such as who attended, when they attended, how long they stayed, what was discussed in the chat panel, which files were shared, who requested to speak, can be accessed at any time. In addition, with the archivable live room system, you can authorize and share files before a room starts. All participants with permission can access archived rooms, not just the creators.

LIVE ROOM VIEWING ABILITIES

Talky offers two room layouts, democratic and stage types, for live rooms depending on the features of the client you are participating in. It automatically manages the visible number of people according to the client’s features. You can limit the number of people to be displayed on stage for reasons such as bandwidth and ease of use. With the speaker tracking system, you always see the active participant. You can show or hide your own image and mirror it. You can also show or hide the images of participants without video. You can change the default 16:9 video aspect ratio to 4:3 as you wish.

MICROPHONE, CAMERA, AND SHARING MANAGEMENT

In the live room, the moderator can stop the microphone, camera, and sharing process for each participant. The administrator can perform this operation for all participants collectively. For example, at the beginning of the meeting, after everyone has made an introduction-greeting speech, the administrator can close everyone’s microphone and camera and allow only the speaker.

START AND END THE ROOM

Live room administrators can start and end both unplanned and planned meetings at any time. They can close the session directly without waiting for each participant to leave the room when the meeting ends.

LIMITABLE VIDEO AND AUDIO QUALITY

Live room administrators can limit the video and audio qualities of participants, taking into account their environmental conditions. Thus, uninterrupted service is provided even for participants with low bandwidth.

PARTICIPANT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Talky offers a detailed participant management system. It allows detailed authorization for each participant for both started and not started live rooms. It offers participant types such as guest, listener, viewer, speaker, moderator, and administrator. You can remove any participant from the room at any time.
